Afrikan Liberation Day May 21 2005
SET THE CAPTIVES FREE! The Boston Chapter of the Jericho Movement will present a day long event of hip hop, performance, speakers and discussion, and workshops.
Performances will include Last Poets, Dead Prez, Queen Godis, The Foundation, Reflect And Strengthen, and Presente.
There will be reports about/by Political Prisoners and others targeted by domestic repression programs: Mumia Abu Jamal, Leonard Peltier, Fred Hampton Jr., Rafael Cancel Miranda, Lynn Stewart, and Kazi Toure.
Boston City Councilors Chuck Turner and Felix Arroyo will speak.
The first workshop is called Rescuing Hip Hop. Tracing the history of Hip Hop, we will examine critically when the record companies decided they could make money from it and what the message would be. Panelists include Last Poets, Dead Prez, Queen Godis, Sharon Cox, moderated by Russell Shoatz Jr.
The second panel will discuss how to build People's security while living under "Homeland Security." Panelists will include Rafael Cancel Miranda (Puerto Rican Independentista and ex-Political Prisoner), Alicia Rodriguez (Puerto Rican Independentista and ex- Political Prisoner), Pam Africa ( from MOVE and International Concerned Friends and Family of Mumia Abu Jamal), Netdahe Williams (son of Political Prisoner Richard Williams), Barry Bachrach & Wanbli Watakpe of (Leonard Peltier Legal Team), Lynne Stewart (People's Lawyer recently convicted under PATRIOT Act), and Michael Tariff Warren (People's Lawyer who has represented Mumia Abu Jamal and other Political Prisoners). Moderated by Kazi Toure, ex-Political Prisoner.
