Are some persons more equal than others?

It appears that some are.

On May 19th the Mid Cambridge Neighborhood Association (MCNA) held their annual meeting at 344 Broadway (formerly 57 Inman Street). They were treated to a guided tour of the "green" building by the architects.

On June 10th I inquired of the DPW if I could use the community room at 344 Broadway, which was available to the MCNA. Jane Maguire of the Cambridge Community Developement Department told me that that room was only available for City departments. She said that the City Manager and Deputy City Manager Rossi arranged for the guided tour, and granted this special privilege to the MCNA.

Here is one more group that is more equal than others. It is not clear why this privilege was granted to this association contrary to the "Rules." The reaction of the Editor of the Cambridge Chronicle was "What's wrong with granting special privileges?"

Finally the City Attorney has a habit of parking illegally near City Hall. He enjoys the use of blue police plates and carries a City Attorney badge. But those plates and the badge do not bring the power to ignore laws without an emergency. On Tuesday May 25th, I saw his car parked on the corner of Bishop Allen Drive too close to a Stop sign, too close to a crosswalk and in a place with a sign prohibiting parking. This is one more example of some being more equal than others. Oink, oink.
