BROOKINGS – Long Brookings Registry Publisher Billy McMacken has been named chief operating officer of News Media Corporation.
News Media is the parent company of Register and is located in Rochelle, Illinois. McMacken will take office on April 4.
News Media Corporation’s footprint includes more than 65 newspapers, buyers, magazines and websites in eight states. McMacken will oversee the operations of all NMC properties.
McMacken has been with the Register since 1990, where he started as a reporter and worked his way up to editor, a position he has held since 2002.
Tracy Jonas has been named editor of the Register. She worked in the Sign up Advertising department for 15 years, the last eight in the role of sales manager. Jonas will also serve as publisher of Moody County Enterprise, a weekly newspaper located in Flandreau.
“The Register is in good hands. I’m really happy for Tracy. She performed many functions of the (editor’s) job as I helped NMC in other places over the years,” McMacken said. “Tracy and I will be working hard over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition.”
Separately, NMC’s current chief revenue officer, JJ Tompkins, has been promoted to president of the company.
