With crude oil at $110 a barrel, transportation issues are more critical than ever for the environment. Increasing costs of fuel—of any sort—are forcing consumers and the economy as a whole to change. Join Marilyn Wellons and logistics expert Frank DeMasi to learn how changes in the delivery of goods and freight can improve our prospects for a better environment and a better economy. Improved air quality and lower costs to maintain roads and bridges are some of the benefits of improved freight. Watch CCTV Channel 9, The Cambridge Environment on Sunday, March 16, 2008, from 6:30 to 7:00 pm, for an important discussion of the issues. Wellons and DeMasi will focus on the Beacon freight yards just across the river in Allston, and the Grand Junction rail line and bridge. The show is rebroadcast at 1:30 am Monday, March 17, 2008. Frank DeMasi is a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Regional Transportation Advisory Council (RTAC) and former Chair of the RTAC Freight Committee. Marilyn Wellons is co-host of The Cambridge Environment and writes for The Bridge.
