Update:

Flood Communications owns both News Channel Nebraska and 98.9 The Vibe.

KEARNEY, NE – It’s a new station with a familiar voice.

Jason Murphy is back in the Tri-Cities. The broadcast veteran hosted Kearney’s best morning show for eight years in the 2010s. After a four-year absence, he’s back on the air.

“My time here at Kearney, I believe, has been cut short. It was one of those things where I always absolutely loved the market, I loved the people, I loved the atmosphere,” Murphy said. “It was really a very good place to live.

Murphy hosts “Murphy in the Morning with Tim” on 98.9 The Vibe, which was rebranded from the former Power 99 last week. Tim is short for Timmari Byrn, a Kearney native making her radio debut.

“I’m excited to do fun things with the community,” Byrn said. “But also, having grown up here and having my friends and family – my kids are super excited – I think it’s going to be awesome.”

The show regularly features news and sports updates from Doug Duda and plays the greatest hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s. The rest of the content? It’s a joker.

“What are we going to talk about? I don’t know,” Murphy said. “We’re going to have a conversation.”

What Murphy knows is that it’s good to be back in central Nebraska.

“It was a place I really had no intention of leaving. At this point, I’m glad to be back. I’m able to carry on with what I love to do and, apparently, what listeners love to hear,” Murphy said.

The show airs weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on KKPR 98.9 FM and 989thevibefm.com.
