Pupils from Tackan Primary School officially launched into their new playground on January 13th.
With the temperature reaching the upper 40s and the sun shining with no wind, third graders Barbara Beard and Kelly Bennis became the first of several classes to use the new playground throughout the school day.
The students shouted, “I’m so excited! and, “That’s so cool!” and, “It’s like a wild carnival!” as they approached and then began to use the new state-of-the-art playground.
The playground includes eight swings, a pair of slides and several other climbing structures. A swing even looks like a car seat for those who may have accessibility issues with a traditional swing.
The staff, including the entire group of cafeteria workers, were so excited about Tackan’s addition that they posed for photos on the first day of using it.
The playground is part of Facilities Manager Daniel Leddy and the Smithtown Central School District’s ongoing project to try to introduce a new playground each year to the district, provided the budget continues to permit.
