BJP leader Ramalingam had come to pay a floral tribute to Bharat Mata and broke the lock on the memorial if permission was not given.
Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President KP Ramalingam was arrested on Sunday evening. Ramalingam is accused of breaking the lock of Bharat Mata memorial in Dharmapuri district. Police said the BJP vice chairman arrived in Dharmapuri on August 11 with his supporters to pay floral respects at the Mother India memorial, but was arrested there for some reason. After which, his followers started trying to enter illegally.
To enter, the Bharat Mata memorial outside the gate was attacked and smashed. A complaint has been filed against Ramalinga and his supporters in this case. BJP Head of State Annamalai reacted to the incident. He said Ramalingam had sought permission from the authorities for this. It was only after getting permission that he managed to pay a floral tribute to the statue of Mother India.
Annamalai tweeted that officials were not present at the scene. The door was locked. After a long wait, Ramalingam and his workers made it to the memorial without damaging the gate. Condemning Ramalingam’s arrest, Annamalai demanded that the police release him immediately without any conditions.
