West Monroe man arrested after robbing KTVE/KARD news station and several vehicles, police say | KTVE

WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) – On Monday, September 12, 2022, at approximately 6:32 p.m., West Monroe Police were dispatched to news station KTVE/KARD in reference to a vehicle theft and burglary complaint. Upon arrival, the complainants informed officers that a white male had entered the station and attempted to rob several employees.

After an unsuccessful attempt to rob the employees, the suspect exited the station and allegedly robbed six vehicles parked in the station parking lot. The victims informed officers that the suspect ran to Surge Entertainment after the incident.

Once officers arrived at Surge Entertainment, they located the suspect in the bowling alley and identified him as 27-year-old Austin James Williams. According to officers, Williams admitted to breaking into vehicles in the station’s parking lot and attempting to steal car keys from a female victim inside the information station.

Williams informed officers he was unable to obtain the victim’s keys and headed to the parking lot after the attempt failed. He went on to admit to breaking into KTVE/KARD reception and stealing the following items:

  • usb device
  • torch lighter
  • Pokemon card
  • wooden ring
  • Box of brackets and pez candy

He also mentioned that he stole the debit cards from two of the six vehicles he entered. Williams was placed under arrest and transported to Ouachita Correctional Center.

He was charged with six counts of burglary from a motor vehicle, theft and larceny. His bail was set at $31,000.
