Eastern Wyoming College President Lesley Travers tendered her resignation on Friday, effective immediately. Travers had announced in October that she was retiring when her contract expired in June.
The college began a presidential search earlier this year, but administrators last month rejected the 3 finalists who came out of that process, saying they didn’t match the school’s current needs.
The board had planned to appoint an interim chairman this week, but after receiving Travers’s resignation, the board called an emergency executive session and named Dr. Richard Patterson acting chairman.
Patterson holds bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist degrees in education from Chadron State College and served as Travers’ predecessor as CEE president.
Chairman of the Trustees, Robert Baumgartner, released a statement saying the Board of Trustees thanked Dr. Travers for his service and wished him well in retirement.
The statement also said the board is committed to finding the best presidential candidate for the EWC, one who will focus on students and build a strong future.
