Stony Brook Village Rooster Returns Home

It was something to sing! On July 1, the Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO) announced the completion of the Rooster Weathervane atop the Stony Brook Village Green mast by Budco Enterprises Inc. and Olivia and Harlan Fischer.

During a storm in June 2021, the rooster on the weather vane fell to the ground and broke. The Rooster is an original piece from the Stony Brook Village rehabilitation by Ward Melville in 1941.

Buddy Simmons, president of Budco Enterprises Inc., restored the weather vane and personally attempted to rebuild the original rooster, but was unable to because too many parts were missing. He then donated a replica of the rooster.

Alex Simmons, Vice President, Budco Enterprises Inc. stripped the directional arrows, ground and painted them, and enhanced the rooster by painting it with real colors. Olivia and Harlan Fischer sponsored the dismantling and reassembly of the new cock, carried out by Poletec, which was not easy.

The original weather vane was custom built by Ward Melville and stood there for 81 years. Hopefully this one will be around for at least another 81 years.
